Chanell Scott Contreras

Build Institute
Capital Programs Manager
Chanell Scott Contreras creatively works at the intersection of entrepreneurship, business and economic development, and community. With a mission to help build an equitable and sustainable future, her work has spanned the philanthropic, business, and non-profit sectors. Before joining Build Institute and Kiva, Chanell’s mission took her to Atlanta where she worked with The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center; and to Cleveland where she worked with the renowned Evergreen Cooperatives, and as a fellow at The Cleveland Foundation. As a small business owner, she helped producers of fair-trade and eco-friendly products market and grow their own small businesses. Chanell’s passion for economic equity grew from her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan. Her skills were refined during her time as a National Urban Fellow while completing her graduate degree at Baruch College.
